    I dont't think feeding a dog coffee grounds is a good idea. From what I've heard, there is stuff in coffee that is harmful to dogs.

    My less than stupid dog ate coffee grounds out of our compost pile. She dug them up and especially enjoyed the vodka infused grounds we used for coffee liquer.

    She lived to the ripe old age of 14 and got her start eating mushroom puke on dead lots as a puppy..

    I'm pretty sure neither the Luwaks or Gee's dogs are "caged".

    I have never seen a cage at Gee's house, and the luwaks are wild, sorta like squirrels or something.

    I don't think there is any question about Kopi Luwak being cruel to animals, on the other hand; it is collecting the-er-natural product of a wild animal, and is therefore much NICER to animals than most animal products.

    I will second you on the "hooray for human stupidity" part though.

    The Civet? Sivet? is wild and free range. They have the amazing ability to pick red, ripe cherry. Perhaps the only real looser in all of this is the poor, voiceless dung beetle.

    the FAQ's only explanation for how we know these things aren't in cages is that this dude once had a couple of luwaks as pets and they preffered to eat "chicken, eggs and bananas" rather than coffee cherries. Because of this he concludes that a caged luwak would somehow turn up its nose at anything less than fine dining.

    I don't think you need to be abnormally cynical to connect that force-feeding the thing in a cage during coffee season is going be irresistably lucrative compared to hunting for the occasional turds in the jungle.

    There are no photos on the site of any Luwak near a coffee tree and nothing but the far-fetched skepticism of the website proprietor to address this albatross.

    I call bullshit.
