Podcast #54: Trish's Layover

When Zoka's Director of Coffee, Trish Skeie, gets stuck in Washington DC en route to Brazil, what do you do? Answer: break out the microphones! Discussion topics: Why is Trish on the show, news and notes, skate board decks are cool, live audio from the NWRBC awards ceremony, recapping the SERBC, Portafilter 2007, the Celebrity-Barista discussion, and a little five dollar wager. Imagine that: another 2-plus hour podcast.

  3. Congrats to BW--I couldn't help thinking by your description of his specialty drink how it sounded like it was perhaps from the "PEARL" project perhaps ;)...or maybe we are close to having the first BJ shot in competition :)

  4. Show sound started off very clear then at about 8:30 mins in there is a hummmm that gets louder and softer throughout the show... The hum was just an annoyance though..great show.

  6. Sorry about the link here on the blog. The XML feed was correct though. You can always subscribe via iTunes Music Store, which is almost impossible to be wrong.

Sorry about the hum too. Our normal mixer's power supply is somehow broken... hopefully back up before #55.

  7. Re, the last 20 mins of the show.

You guys *really need to see the Bassett Living Coffee DVD*.

Basically what you talked about (eg, building a series around someone "dynamic" pushing a lot of their own opinions, the rock star... Bassett did this with the Living Coffee series; however, the WAY he did it was VERY inclusive - every episode features things like a visit to a different cafe, a home segment, special features like trips to origin (mainly MountainTop in Aus), cupping, matching a flavour profile of a blend to one of Australia's most famous wines, etc.

Bassett could be the guy... if the Food Network buys a clue.

  10. I've been re-listening to all the podcasts over the last couple of month. The thing that stands out is that you - you, Nick and Jay and you, the leaders in the specialty coffee biz - are creating a wonderful oral history project.

    Thanks for all you do.

    Ron
