By now, you've seen the amazing WBC 2007 coverage on zacharyzachary.com.
Stay tuned to Portafilter.net for the first play-by-play commentary on a WBC Finals video. Each finalist, with PF.net color commentary by Jay Caragay and Nick Cho. To be uploaded soon.
But just a correction - it may be the first play by play broadcast / podcast / webcast of a Barista comp, but not the first one to "happen". There were some fun times in Atlanta in the second room with the second video screens, with commentary by people like George Sabados, Paul Bassett, and others. I only wish someone had recorded that event. It was freakin' hillarious, as well as very educational.
PS - I didn't mean for the comment above to sound all "hey, it's been done before". It's just I remember sitting there, listening to those guys and laughing my ass off at some of the colour commentary, and even joining in on a few comments. Good times... and I'm really looking forward to Jay and Nick's rendition of the 2007 finals!
LOL! Can't wait.

ReplyDeleteI like this idea, personally.
ReplyDeleteI think if something like this was implemented in the competitions, it would make it more interesting to the viewer.
Imagine more of an Iron Chef like thing, with Alton Brown giving the play by play, but without the barista hearing what the commentator was saying.
Down with the m.c., up with the commenator!
I'll be Kevin Brauch!
ReplyDeleteYou can't be Kevin Brauch. That guy knows Jack shit. You know lots!
ReplyDeleteOn Iron Chef, the chefs can hear Alton... leads to some cool interactions. Total pros.
Colorful commentaries will be very stimulating and great fun! Maybe we can make it happen for USBC 2008 :)
ReplyDeleteFukuisan........
ReplyDeleteCome on I cant wait any more !!!!!!
ReplyDelete:)
Why does Nick and Jay hate me so much that they don't talk to me anymore (at least in podcast land that is).
ReplyDeleteI miss you guys, and I'm really looking forward to this, I do hope its still going to be released.
