Portafilter Podcast July 2005 - March 2008

It's with greatly mixed feelings that I announce that the Portafilter Podcast is no more.

Over three years, the podcast has been downloaded over 200,000 times (over 2,600 per episode on average), and it's been an unbelievable run.

In the interest of not digging into unnecessary messiness, my co-host and I find ourselves with certain irreconcilable differences, and I am unable to continue the partnership.

I do thank my co-host, Mr. Jay Caragay, for a great series of podcasts, and I wish him well in his continuing endeavors.

A coffee podcast may be reborn in one sense or another sometime in the future, and for now, the podcast RSS feed (via iTunes) will live on, and with 4,000 downloads of old episodes per month right now, I have no intention of pulling them off-line. The blog will continue as well.

Thanks to the throng of devoted listeners. From industry movers-and-shakers to home coffee enthusiasts, my hope from episode one to episode 75 was for the podcast to, in any way, add to your entertainment and coffee experience.

    Thanks guys for the podcasts you made- they were often informative, always entertaining.

    The question is, in a few years, who will be the Frank Sinatra to reunite the coffee Martin and Lewis?

    I'll go and listen to the Nick and Jay karaoke version of "A Little Respect" now

    This saddens me, as well.
    This podcast was, and is, a college education on coffee, the business and the bean, espresso and life in general and how it can suck and be glorious (life & coffee).

    I will always continue to recommend this podcast and I from time to time will continue to "rewind the tapes" and listen to Nick rant and Jay rave, and visa versa.

    Thanks for the hours and hours and hours and hours you entertained and educated me going up and down the highway.

    According to my iTunes calculator: there are Four Days, Fourteen Hours, Fifty-five Minutes and Thirty-Three Seconds of the Portafilter.net Podcast for your listening pleasure.

    I co-hosted 69 of the 75 Podcasts
    I was upset about some industry issue in 74 of the 69 I co-hosted.
    Nick defended the coffee establishment 74 of those times.
    I made fun of the automated brewer at least eleven times.
    Peter Giuliano was the first guest co-host.
    I co-hosted the show from far flung locales such as Las Vegas and Cockeysville, MD.
    Episode 50 - The John Hornall Show is my favorite episode.
    Episode 16 is my second most favorite episode.
    We did one live show.
    We did two shows in front of a studio audience.
    One episode featured a house band.
    The sound quality sucked until Podcast 13 - Charlotte SCAA Meetings

    With the exception of Episode 67, each and every Portafilter.net Podcast was broadcast without edit or editorial review - regardless of the content within or the consequences we faced as a result.

    Episode 67 was deleted from the online catalog against my judgement to placate the Specialty Coffee Association of America.

    There are six video Portafilter.net Podcasts that remain out of public circulation.

    See - it was quite pertinent that we did those two hour podcasts...
