Hailu Gebrehiwot really was awesome. We should hear so much more from people like him, who are involved in coffee from the "other side" of the intercontinental relationship.
ReplyDeleteAs for Nick's attitude, it did sound a bit less reverential than it could have been. But it had the merit of being rather honest. This said from the perspective of an anthropologist.
Geoff Watts' discussion (at about 44 minutes into the podcast) about methods to reward quality coffee above and beyond fair-trade was quite insightful. Sure, the CoE program is meant to accomplish similar goals. But the discussion at least helped me to put things in perspective.
